Whatever your business, whatever your niche, you have to promote what you are doing no matter what. Without promotion, there will be no sales, and without sales, there is no profit, and this is true for every business out there. However, not all marketing practices are green, and it is fairly known that business owners don’t really care much about eco-friendliness, as long as the campaign does its job and brings more sales.

However, since we are entering 2017 and the need for eco-friendliness has never been more evident, I will present you with some ideas that will help you cut down on environmental pollution, while still yielding the desired results.

Start a corporate blog3

Everything that you will see here is done online. That is the only way in which we can be sure to utilize anything that might pollute the environment we live in. For starters, I will advise you to start a blog on your business’ official website. This will help you in multiple ways.

Firstly, it will enable you to reach out to your customers with more ease. Secondly, you can keep them regularly updated on the news in your field, as well as on the news regarding your company. Thirdly, every Internet marketing specialist will tell you that a blog is the starting point for any campaign. Google likes when it sees that a website also has a blog and it has become regular practice for web-developers to put a blog section when designing a website.

So, if you don’t have one yet, talk to your web-developer and see to it that you get a blog on your webpage.

Go for online marketing

Like I said, a blog is only the starting point of an online marketing campaign. The rest is slightly more complicated, but extremely useful, nevertheless. When was the last time you went for an ad to help you decide what you were going to do? And when was the last time you searched for it on Google? Exactly.

People have become so used to the fact that the Internet is everywhere that we have forgotten about how things used to be. Online marketing is the future (if it hasn’t already become dominant).

Doing online marketing is something that is better left to the professionals. Between the AMPs, SERPs, SMMs, and a lot of other abbreviations, one can easily get confused. Online marketing is usually done as a whole package by an SEO company, since there are many factors influencing rankings on a search engine.

You can find ways online to compare the best SEO companies, and I highly recommend that you do so, and hire one as soon as possible. SEO takes some time to yield results, but when it does, you’ll be more than glad you gave it a shot.

Use e-mail newsletters

E-mails are probably the cheapest form of advertising. Everyone uses e-mails. But, the better thing about them is that they are free. It costs you, or anyone else, nothing to send an e-mail to another person. Of course, if you hire someone to do it for you, it might cost something, but the price of email marketing compared to direct mail marketing is simply ridiculous. Also, imagine if you had to put that newsletter in a direct mail form? Pages and pages of it would have to be printed and sent out, only to end-up in the trash-can, probably not even read by the person it was intended for.

Bonus: Get rid of paper as much as you can

The thing about online marketing is that it does not use paper or any other physical kind of carrier for your message. This means that there is less pollution from the very beginning. In order to keep up with this, try to use as little paper as possible, and only for the necessary stuff, like business cards, which are not as effective online.

Also, try to use alternative methods of communication, like Internet faxing, which is really starting to take up with people, being that it is eco-friendly, efficient and much, much cheaper. The nature will love you if you do all this.

One of the leading companies in the field of geothermal power development, the Italian EXERGY, has continued its growth on a global scale, namely in Turkey. Their latest success involves a contract for the supply of a 24 MWe ORC power plant signed with the Turkish company Bestepeler Enerji Üretim Ticaret A.s.

The renewable energy sector employed 8.1 million people, directly or indirectly, in 2015. In addition, large hydropower accounted for another 1.3 million direct jobs in 20151. Renewable energy markets and employment continued to be shaped by favourable policy frameworks in several countries, regional shifts in deployment and increased labour productivity. For the second year in a row, the global top-ten in job creation includes four countries in Asia. The continent’s

share of total renewable energy employment reached 60% in 2016, up from 51% in 2013. African countries also witnessed an increase, with a conservative estimate of 61,0007 jobs in 2016 as new projects came online

EXERGY (exergy-orc.com) is  known for designing and manufacturing ORC or Organic Rankine Cycle systems, which are based on the innovative technology called Radial Outflow Turbine. Their equipment  are what allows geothermal developers and companies to operate using geothermal energy,. EXERGY has been cooperating with countries from all over the world, including those from North and South America, and Asia. The company has been in business with Bestepeler Enerji since they first signed a contract in 2015. Now they have been hired to supply a geothermal ORC plant  of  24 MWe.

Both EXERGY and Bestepeler Enerji will participate in this project, and the client  will  take full advantage of the benefits Turkish companies receive for everything that is made in Turkey. This means that the equipment necessary for the completion of the project will all be manufactured in the EXERGY’s workshop located in Izmir, Turkey.  The EXERGY’s workshop that has been operating for the past two yearshas managed to produce 20 turbines for Turkish companies. If this counts as an indicator of the future success of the cooperation between Italy and Turkey, it could be said that the results of their latest project won’t fail to amaze.

One of the most important men in EXERGY’s ranks, the CEO Claudio Spadacini, has made a statement regarding the latest developments. He says that the renewed contract cements the company’s position in the market and strengthens its cooperation with Turkey., EXERGY is currently in the process of discussing several other projects with countries around the world and for regions that show great potential for the development of geothermal energy.

Before the introduction of incandescent bulbs and LEDs, carbon arc lamps ruled the commercial lighting sector. Previously, the outdated luminaries were used to light up streets, support filming projects and illuminate local landmarks for travelers. The fixtures helped kick start the electric lighting era by encouraging the development of commercial units, including early motion picture Kliegl lights, the iconic Jablochkoff Candle and mercury arc lamps (not to be confused with mercury vapor lamps).

History and Overview

Carbon arc lights (not incandescent lamps) were the first electric light sources to hit mainstream use. In 1802, Sir Humphry Davy pioneered this type of technology through the generation of an arc based on the connection of two large pieces of charcoal attached to a powerful supply of electricity (2,000 voltaic cells). He did not capitalize on the production of carbon arc lights during the discovery. Instead, other scientists helped develop the technology using his initial findings. Davy also made notable contributions to safety features found in today’s mining lights.

In 1834, William Edwards Staite from Britain picked up where Davy left off and started his own experiments with carbon arc lights. Two years later, the scientist was able to manipulate the light by regulating the movement of carbons inside the unit via clockwork mechanisms. He also applied for numerous patents, as he developed the foundational features of the luminary. As with most newly released electronics, the lamps were too costly to be used on a daily basis. Specifically, the batteries required during light output were extremely expensive. This was the main issue that was preventing the unit from reaching mainstream markets.

Enclosed and Flame Arc Lamps

Four decades after Staite’s contributions, adoption for arc-based lamps started to take off due to the introduction of cheaper batteries and reliable, steam-driven generators. Between 1880 and 1900, manufacturers released updated models with enclosed and flame arc features, which helped push adoption even further. In enclosed arc lamps, a glass tube inside the unit’s main casing surrounds the arc. This effectively decreased the use of carbons (by reducing airflow around the arc) during light output up to five times. As a result, maintenance for the luminaries was greatly reduced; however, the unique design required more power during light generation.

qq

To promote brightness, flame arc lamps with fiery salt components were introduced. The core mixture was composed of the following: magnesium, strontium, barium and calcium. In addition to increased light intensity, the compounds added to the light’s color profile. By 1910, carbon arc light installations reached its peak at 20,000 luminaries in populated British locations and cities. The introduction of the arc-based Jablochkoff Candle supported the manufacturing and use of the technology in massive quantities.

Light Generation and Output

Carbon arc lights go through a tedious process during light production. The unit is made up of two carbon electrodes with gaseous components in the center. During operation, the electrodes, which are suspended in the air, are touched together to ignite the arc. Afterwards, current is maintained during output to ensure consistent illumination. Because heat is not regulated closely in carbon arc lamps, the carbon rods are prone to burning.

This type of lamp came with several major disadvantages, which were eventually addressed in newer forms of lighting technologies. As mentioned earlier, maintenance of failing, expired or burned lamp parts became top priority for cities that installed carbon arc lights around parks and streets. Unenclosed models of the fixture were fire hazards and ignited many commercial establishments, such as theaters and industrial buildings. The lights also generated generous amounts of UV light (UVA, UVB and UVC bands), radio frequency interference and deadly carbon monoxide (CO). This put technicians and operators at serious risk, either causing blindness from persistent exposure to harmful UV rays, bodily damage from CO emissions or unforeseen ignitions due to lack of safety features.

On the positive side, arc lamps boasted intense lighting conditions, reaching as high as 2,000 – 4,000 candlepower. Because of this, reliable models of carbon arc lamps can be seen from distances as far as five miles away. By comparison, incandescent bulbs only support 16 candlepower.

q

Commercial and Industrial Applications

These days, carbon arc luminaries are not widely used due to their inefficient and unsafe light generation mechanisms. Although it is important to consider that there are other forms of arc lighting available, such as fluorescent lamps, flash camera lighting, UV fixtures and theatrical lights. During peak usage in the 1800s, they were mostly applied in outdoor lighting systems. An 1881 report from Scientific American suggests that the fixtures supported the following industrial operations: steel manufacturing, rolling mills, mining and railroad services. In commercial settings, the lights could be found in docks, parks and streets.

Eventually, the downfall of carbon arc lamps helped usher in the era of incandescent lighting. Edison addressed the pitfalls of carbon arc lamps by introducing a new way of generating light via heating up a wire, instead of violent sparks. The scientist’s old notes revealed that he crafted a new way to divide the arc light into smaller components, so that people can view the light with minimal visual strain. Before incandescent lighting took off, carbon arc fixtures were still being used in lighthouses and stadiums. In London, the city depended on such luminaries for street lighting up to the 1950s.

Carbon arc lamps were prevalent in movie recording studios, and were known for their bright output capabilities. However, because they generated intense levels of UV light, some actors and individuals on the set wore sunglasses outside of filming to provide relief against eye soreness and inflammation.

Below is a shortlist of lighting products available from Larson Electronics:

  • LED outdoor spot/flood light (25 watts, waterproof, IP67 rated, ETL listed)
  • PAR 38 LED spot/flood light (20 watts, IP67 outdoor approved not submersible)
  • Golight LED spotlight on Stanchion mount (36 watts, 12 volts, 900-foot beam)
  • Handlebar mount LED spotlight (25 watts, IP68 rating, aluminum housing)
  • LED tube light (14 watts, two-foot tube, 381 grams)
  • Dual circuit LED pivoting light (C1D2, four-foot three lamp configuration, 72 watts)

Although many people are motivated to recycle to reduce trash in landfills by finding creative uses for items instead of throwing them away, others are more motivated by the money they can make by recycling scrap metal. Aluminium, steel, copper, and other metals can be taken to recycling centres and sold at the current market value. If you’re interested in recycling scrap metal, here is some information to get you started.

Types of Recyclable Metals

Most non-ferrous metals, which are metals that do not contain iron, can be sold as scrap in Australia. Non-ferrous metals include aluminium, copper, lead, nickel, brass, and precious metals such as silver and gold. Even though some steel contains iron, which makes it a ferrous metal, stainless steel and steel parts such as radiators can also be sold.

Recycle Metal Items

Typically, when you sell scrap metal, recyclers only want the metal, but you don’t necessarily have to take it out of air conditioners, cars, appliances, or other items in which it is found. However, as a general rule, they do not buy items like computers, laptops, or other electronics due to the time it takes to extract the metal and the toxins present in some components. Since metals are used for many purposes, these items can be sold at most scrap metal recyclers.

Aluminium

Most scrap metal recyclers will buy aluminium cans, wire, extrusion, litho sheets, wheels, window frames, and guttering.

Copper

You can usually sell copper wiring, cables, electric motors, export containers, Buzz Bar No. 1, and transformers.

Brass

Many recyclers put brass into two categories: honey brass and Ali brass. Most brass parts are recyclable and may include pipes, fittings, wiring, sinks, and pans.

If you have some non-ferrous metal items you want to get rid of, you should contact the nearest scrap metal recycler to find out if they will buy what you have.

Check Prices

Before you take your scrap metal to a recycling company, you can go online to check its value. Since metal is a commodity, the prices can fluctuate on a daily basis. Pricing is usually broken down into grams or kilos. Once you’ve checked the daily rate to get an idea of what scrap copper prices are, you can call recyclers to find out the prices they are offering.

The prices usually do not vary much among recyclers. They will usually be the same or within a penny or two of each other. If the market changes, then the prices may change accordingly. Unless you’re selling scrap metal on a regular basis, you may not care what the current market price is, so you can sell your metal items at any time.

Instead of throwing away metal parts, cans, or items you don’t want, make a little money back by selling them at a scrap metal recycling company. Depending on how much your items weigh, you may only make a few dollars. However, if the metal is in high demand, such as copper, you could make a good amount of money.

If you own a hot tub or spa you may think you need to use a variety of chemicals to maintain clean water. Keeping the water in good clean condition is a must but you don’t necessarily need to use products that are harsh on the skin or harmful to your family. In fact, there are a number of different products that do a great job without the potentially harmful side effects that are associated with some cleaners and sanitisers. We caught up with Aqua Spa Supplies to look at your options.

Take a look at Spa Marvel Water Treatment which is both easy to use and kind to the skin. It does not include any harsh chemicals but relies on more natural ingredients such as seaweed and lanolin to do its job. All you need to do is empty the whole bottle into your hot tub or spa and the effects will last up to three months. It will prevent scum lines forming around the edge of the tub, will help to maintain pH and alkalinity as well as eliminating foam. It is also odour free so you won’t need to take a shower when you climb out of the water.Image result for How To Be Eco Friendly With Your Hot Tub Or Spa

An alternative product to try would be Aquasafe Cleanser. Advertised as being “non toxic to any living creature” you can be sure it won’t harm your family. Once again you simply pour the product into your hot tub or spa and it will get to work cleaning away contaminants and residues in the spa’s fittings and plumbing.

So, what do you do if you live in an area of hard water? Well there is no need to use chemicals to eliminate the problem, simply fill up your hot tub or spa using the Darlly Pure-Stream De-Ioniser to render the calcium harmless to the system. It will last up to two years and will prevent “gassy” water.

Finding an eco-friendly job is difficult these days. For people who care about the environment, there are simply not enough options to choose from. Even when you find something that is good for the environment, the pay you would get is almost non-existing. It is really sad that someone should be punished to try and preserve the environment in which we live in. Luckily, there is an alternative road you can take – you can become a green entrepreneur.

If there are no jobs you can find that are related to protecting the environment, you can start a green business of your own and work for yourself. Still, most people relate being eco-friendly to recycling only. Caring for the environment doesn’t just mean being thorough in recycling or taking care of your trash. If you want to “work green”, you have to be creative and expand your horizons, while at the same time giving up on waiting for somebody else to come along and give you a job you will like.

Luckily for you, the current hot topic in modern economy is to save money, and this also includes a wide range of green companies who are trying to help save energy, water and other important resources. If you have the ambition to start a business of your own and make it eco-friendly, it is important to know that you have two advantages over businesses which don’t really consider the environment.

The first important thing to remember is that environmentalism is growing quite fast, meaning that your target market is still growing as well. The second important thing to remember is that running a green business is quite rewarding, as you will feel satisfied because you are contributing to the world and making it a better place, while at the same time making a living out of it.

Here are some of the best ideas you can find:

Help people cut their energy costs

c

Given the fact that the costs of traditional energy resources are constantly going up, there is a clear need for reducing costs and saving the environment from wasted energy. When you combine these two things, it’s obvious that there is a solid ground for creating a business that will deal with these things, and that there will be enough potential customers that will keep your startup alive.

A solar energy based heating system can give enough energy to any facility, while at the same time saving a lot of money on monthly costs. It can provide up to 70 % of a household’s hot water needs for a month, if the system is properly installed.

Since 2008, solar panel based electrical generators have been growing constantly. For a few years, the growth was huge, then it was smaller, but the important thing is that it seem like there is not stopping it. This means that there are a lot of people out there who are interested in installing these kinds of systems, and the fact is that they are not so easily installed. They require expertise and knowledge. If you acquire this knowledge and the necessary equipment, you can make a lot of money by installing similar systems.

Green online store

c

Even though opening an internet-based store from your home can make it easier for you to reach a bigger market, while at the same time having significantly lower costs than when opening a store in the real world, it could still take a lot of time before your store gets noticed and before people start coming to you. During that time, you will have to invest a lot of energy and some money in order to get noticed in the huge ocean called the internet.

There is much work to be done, and this is not a simple process, as you might think. The first thing you have to do, and this is quite crucial, is to build a website that will represent your business online and be your headquarters for online consumers. Then, you will have to implement e-commerce solutions, billing systems, you’ll have to track deliveries, ship products and, last but not least, market your website online.

When it comes to green businesses, creating a good online marketing campaign is a must, but it is also difficult. This is why you must invest in hiring a good marketing agency, and if you don’t know how to find one, you should look for some reviews at CrowdReviews.com, to make sure you get what you payed for.

You will also have to create eco-products which are in demand. You can either create them all by yourself, to get all the profit, or you can find a producer and buy products from them and sell them through your website. If not, you can take a much quicker path, but it will cost you more.

You can create your ecommerce business on sites such as OnlyGreen4Me, and they will take care of all the shipping, inventory, collection and billing issues for you. You will have to pay $2,500 for the setup process and you will get maintenance and hosting for your first year of operations. Additionally, they already have a customer base and you can almost immediately start selling stuff.

Sell organic food

c

As you probably already know, organic food is much tastier than artificial products and, more importantly, it’s much healthier. A lot of people are starting to be aware of these facts and they are slowly turning towards organic food. Producing organic food will bring you closer to nature, and you will be happy after each customer has bought some fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables from you. You will directly be helping people lead healthier lives and this is simply an amazing feeling.

The organic food industry is one of the fastest growing ones and the fact that the quality of organic fruits and vegetables grown this way is levels above the typical industrial food, which involves a lot of harmful chemicals, only makes it more in demand. One of the best things about growing organic food is that you only need a little investment to grow your first fruits and veggies. You only need a small piece of land, seeds, and some natural fertilizer to get everything start. Of course, you will have to learn how to take care of your plants and nurture them properly so that they give excellent results.

At the beginning, you can start by offering your products to some small grocery stores and restaurants. If it really starts going for you, then you can start expanding your services and you can even get a place at the marketplace and sell your fresh food on your own.

Green transportation

c

Help people get where they want to go! As transportation is becoming greener due to high gas prices and because people are starting to realize how much motor vehicles pollute our environments, opening a green transportation business is becoming an attractive business model. Bikes and scooters are becoming an appealing transportation means, and more and more people are embracing them. The first thing is that they can save the customer’s money. Also, they don’t pollute the environment, they are healthy for the person pedaling, and they can get you anywhere without being held up in traffic jams.

If you live in a crowded city that attracts a lot of tourists, it is good to open a bike rental business. Tourists love to rent bikes and go sightseeing this way, especially younger students and millennials.  There are many other green vehicles today, and there are more of them coming out each year. You can even open a delivery business or combine deliveries with selling organic meals. Now, there is an interesting business idea.

Green constructions

c

Green building is one of the latest trends that can lead to many good business possibilities. Furthermore, the amount of help and good you can do with green building is simply amazing. The entire building process can be eco-friendly. Construction professionals can all specialize in building green objects including designers, contractors, construction companies and architects as well. For example, designers can specialize to create solutions out of materials and elements which are the least harmful for the environment.

Green building requires a lot of eco-friendly products, which can be the foundation of your new business. Building homes using second hand materials can save you a lot of money and time. If the whole building process is green, it is possible to construct buildings which are completely green and save up a lot of energy. A lot of homes nowadays have water-saving toilets and solar water heating systems, and you can base your business either on making them or on providing them during the construction process.

I hope these ideas have inspired you to come up with a green business of your own. Running a green business doesn’t mean that you will not make money; it’s all about the business part and not the green part. What I’m trying to say is that, if you manage to find customers for your business and deliver them excellent green products or services, you will be able to make money just as you would with any other business. Not only that you will be able to make money, but you will also feel great and help the environment you live in.

What is a flow meter?

This is a device for measuring the flow rate of a liquid or a gas quantity passing through a pipe; be it mass, Volumetric, linear or nonlinear.

Factors to consider when choosing a flow meter

  • Familiarity of plant personnel
  • Experience of plant personnel with maintenance and calibration
  • Availability of spare parts
  • Failure history at the plant site.2

Types of meters in the Market

Calorimetric flow meters

Calorimetric flow meters use the principle of fluid flow measurement; two temperature insulated sensors are placed in contact with the liquid. One sensor is continuously heated to monitor the fluid flow rate, using the cooling effect of the fluid. An increase in fluid flow allow heat energy to be drawn from the hot sensor leading to a reduction in the temperature difference between sensors. The reduction in temperature is proportional to the rate fluid flow. The variation of response times is due to the fluid thermal conductivity. For proper measurement, lower thermal conductivity needs higher velocity. For high accuracy, the rate of flow should be kept low.

Velocity flow meters

There is a direct relationship between the output signal and the velocity going through the meter. This includes electromagnetic flow meters and others.

Electromagnetic flow meters

The fluid works as the conductor, allowing the energised coils to create the magnetic field. The voltage is directly proportional to the rate flow. The two electrodes in the pipe will detect the voltage produced. These flow meters are always used to accurately measure corrosive liquids. They can only be used for electrical conductive fluids such as water since they have high power consumption.

Mass Flow Meters

The development of mass flow meters was as a result of the need for accuracy in flow measurements. They include; thermal and Coriolis, with the later commonly as the liquid flow applications. This instrument measures the mass flow rate directly. There is a direct relationship between the output signal and the mass going through the meter. a

Coriolis Flow Meters

The measurement of mass is insensitive to temperature, pressure, viscosity and density changes. Coriolis flow meters are known as universal meters due to their ability to measure gases, slurries and liquids. They adopt the concept of the Coriolis effect for the measurement of the mass moving along them. The U-shaped tube through which the fluid flows vibrates in an angular harmonic oscillation, causing the tubes to deform. The additional vibration component is added to the oscillation, resulting in a measurable phase shift on a few points of the tubes. The accuracy level of these meters is less than +/-0.1% with a 100:1 turn-down rate.

Our lives have ended up busier and more unpleasant. There is constantly more work than what one can deal with. It is just evident that we would do anything or purchase anything off the rack that guarantees to make things simpler for us. Be that as it may, do you ever stop and ponder what the thing you are purchasing is made of? Did you realize that all manufactured cleaning items which you presumably have been utilizing are made of perilous chemicals that meddle with the ozone from the air? This response results in the development of poisons, for example, formaldehyde.

As per the Environmental Protection Agency, our homes contain a more elevated amount of normal substance contaminations contrasted with the regions outside our homes. This implies utilizing substance topped wiping items could end off putting you and your family’s wellbeing at danger.

A more beneficial option would be to utilize www.ecofriendlycleaning.ca, otherwise called green, common or natural. These are useful for your wellbeing, as well as for the strength of the earth.2

Here are a portion of the reasons why you have to practice environmental awareness:

Security

Since business cleaning items are loaded with chemicals, they represent a more serious danger to your eyes and skin. You have to ensure that such items are no place near youngsters, as they can bring about genuine substance smolders and harm. Natural items, then again, are made of characteristic fixings, and they are not brutal on your skin. Common items take after strict wellbeing gauges.

Solid Living Environment

Most of the business cleaning items is a blend of different poisonous chemicals, and their consistent use can prompt cerebral pains and respiratory ailments, for example, asthma. To make a more beneficial, less harmful living environment at home, changing to www.ecofriendlycleaning.ca can have a noteworthy effect. Becoming environmentally viable means your skin no more needs to interact with cruel chemicals and you won’t need to inhale brutal chemicals any longer.

Environment Friendly

The poisons in your cleaning items wait in your home, as well as discover their way into the earth. This causes water and air contamination, and adds to ozone exhaustion, and additionally changes in the worldwide atmosphere. Picking green items diminishes these negative effects on our surroundings, prompting a more advantageous planet.

More advantageous Air

It is normal for a house to possess an aroma similar to solid chemicals after it has been cleaned with synthetic filled cleaners. Green cleaning items, then again, have common vital oils, so as opposed to breathing in hurtful chemicals, you get the opportunity to notice normal lovely scents.

No Antibacterial Overdose

As indicated by the American Medical Association (AMA), regular utilization of antibacterial fixings can elevate bacterial imperviousness to anti-microbial. Likewise, antibacterial specialists found in numerous cleaning items may prompt hormonal unevenness and thyroid issues. The greater parts of the regular natural items don’t contain antibacterial specialists and they are totally sheltered to utilize.

Savvy

The costs for normal cleaning items have turned out to be far more aggressive in the most recent years, thus it bodes well to go for more advantageous www.ecofriendlycleaning.ca. Additionally, you can simply get ready characteristic cleaning items with things you will effectively situate in your kitchen. For instance, lime juice and vinegar have been utilized as viable cleaning specialists from quite a while back. You will discover numerous formulas online to help you find and plan characteristic arrangements at home.

Debates about environmentalism are frequently presented in terms of what the government could be doing to minimize damage and help save the earth. Whilst it’s true that our leaders should be doing more to curb the devastating effects of industrialization and big business upon the natural world, it’s also the responsibility of the community as a whole to protect the planet. There are plenty of environmentally friendly open-source business models available to those with the time, resources, and inclination. A new cooperative movement has now launched with the intention of creating a platform and mechanisms for action on a local level.2

The People’s Co-operative (also known as Save The Earth) has launched with a single vision and goal in mind; to help preserve the earth through the creation and support of enterprise and initiatives that not only reward communities globally but is also inherently ethical, sustainable and ecologically friendly. According to head honcho Emlyn Mousley, it can’t solve the world’s problems overnight, but it can help people to try and make a change. The initiative is designed to financially support through ethical investment, a range of sustainable business models which will ultimately benefit communities – putting people before profit and choosing a kinder, less harmful and more eco-friendly way forward. Businesses such as permaculture, food forests, organic breweries, green schools, ‘pay as you feel’ cafes and artisan products are just a small example of the projects ‘Save The Earth’ are looking to support.

Emlyn Mousley commented: “Save the Earth Co-Operative is all about supporting the earth’s caretakers in setting up local craft shops, real ale organic breweries, patchwork farms, organic bakeries, help the homeless initiatives, eco-villages, aquaponics systems, planting herb gardens in derelict plots of land – the list is endless! If there’s a better way of doing things that benefits both people and the planet, Save The Earth wants to help turn it from an idea into a reality.”

Save the Earth is currently seeking to raise £4,500 via the crowdfunding platform Crowdfunder to seed initial support for key ethical and green initiatives both in the UK and abroad. Crowdfunder works along the same lines as similar platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, relying on pledges from interested parties to help fund the project. The co-operative aims to provide people with a means of playing an active part in helping to minimize damage to the environment, rather than leaving the task in the hands of the apathetic powers-that-be.
