Used Cooking Oil

As the name suggests, used cooking oil or UCO is cooking/frying oil of vegetable or animal origin that has been in use for some time and needs replacement for better results.

However, disposing the UCO can be a challenge since when poured into the sinks or drains, over time a buildup of the fat and grease will accumulate inside the traps and bends of the drainage system. This build up will cause major problems such as a complete pipe blockage sparking the need for sewage repairs, which is very costly.

Another alternative applied by people who are aware of the damage of pouring the oil down the drain is by cooling the oil and then disposing it in closed containers as regular waste. This is much effective than the latter but is not the best option since they are throwing away a very useful resource.  The most suitable and eco-friendly way of handling UCO is putting it up for recycling.

Used cooking oil collection

Efficient cooking oil recycling is the most sustainable and satisfactory alternative of handling UCO and MBP solutions is a market leader in this field. MBP has dedicated companies in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark that are part of the MBP solutions, which also collects the UCO across Scandinavia and Finland.

For households and businesses that want to dispose the UCO safely, they simply have to collect the used oil into the containers provided by MBP, there is no need for one to strain the oil to remove particles or lumps of food that may be present since the collection tanks are fitted with strainers and sieves. The containers offered come in different sizes from 200, 400, 600 and 1000 liters depending on the clients UCO output. They also have workers who replace the full containers with clean empty ones hence minimizing the clients exposure to any risk associated.

UCO recycling at MBP Solutions

Once the UCO is collected and brought to the MBP production facilities, the oil undergoes processing and cleaning by heating it into a liquid form. Separation of the fat from the waste and debris follows, the waste comprises of water and protein from the food residue.

After the separation, processing of the UCO is complete and the purified oil is ready for use. MBP satisfies a number of quality, environmental and sustainability standards to conduct the recycling process hence guaranteeing a safe product.

Benefits of recycling UCO

Here are some of the major advantages of recycling the used cooking oil,

  • Source of renewable energy

The purified oil is an important raw material in the production of biodiesel, which is an eco-friendly source of energy. Vehicles and any diesel-powered machines that use mineral-based diesel can use the biodiesel as an alternative.

  • Saves Money

The recycling of used cooking oil saves money in various ways. Since MBP provides collection containers for households and business (such as hotels and restaurants) to use in putting the UCO, they save them the disposal costs like buying extra bins. This also helps them avoid the cost of sewage repairing if they had poured the oil into the sink and drains, which we saw earlier leads to blockage of the drainage.

Companies that use the recycled oil also minimize the chances of their equipment from spoiling faster. This saves them the maintenance cost not forgetting the fact that recycled oil such as bio diesel is very affordable unlike the other forms of fuels, diesel.

  • Environmental friendly

Recycling of UCO, helps keep the environment clean by minimizing waste pollution and providing a cleaner and much safer type of fuel, the biodiesel. Biodiesel is very eco-friendly since it does not emit any harmful gases during combustion unlike diesel and other types of fossil fuels which produce chemical compounds like sulphur and carbon monoxide that cause air pollution.

Final Remarks

It is evident that by collecting and recycling the UCO, MBP Solution provides a sustainable solution that helps maintain a much healthier and cleaner environment for everyone.
