Innovation For Bio-based Polymers

One of the demands of the thermo-plastic industries to create an economical and viable solution for bio based polymers.  The changing environmental habits of consumers and industry alike, we are being asked to consider natural alternatives to combat a global issue.  Discovery can only materialize through cooperation, years of knowledge as well as a commitment to change in processes.

Roquette, France is a family operated business with interests in key areas and locations around the globe and is dedicated to ongoing research and development, for its clients and the changing needs of the world population.  Roquette is one of the top 5 companies in the world, that produce starch based products, offering solutions to industries in the areas such as human nutrition, paper, and pharmacy/cosmetology.

After extensive work in the field and at its’ laboratories Roquette has successfully developed an innovative bio-based plasticizer POLYSORB, which has numerous applications, and a solution for many industries who seek alternatives to the traditional petrochemical plasticizers on the market today.

POLYSORB ID plasticizer is manufactured from two safe and biodegradablematerials and is recommended for use in applications where end users come into direct contact traditional alternatives, such as hospital floors, wall coverings, decorated surfaces and furniture.

POLYSORB ID is a blend of diesters obtained through combining isosorbide with plant-based fatty acids. Phthalate-free and 100% bio-based. Offers outstanding compatibility and process ability with PVC resins. Due to its excellent efficiency, it can be considered as an alternative to traditional petrochemical-based plasticizers. POLYSORB ID has been registered with various global regulators and is approved in EU for use in food applications. (EU Food Contact Plastic Regulations)

isosorbidepolysorb can be used in the packaging and bottling industry due to its ability to handle higher temperatures, going beyond traditional PET packaging.   In addition, POLYSORB isosorbide has applications in in polycarbonates, namely by replacing bisphenol A (BPA) completely.

This is a safe alternative to traditional chemicals and opens the door to an expanded spectrum of polymer properties, which include chemical and UV resistance and excellent optical qualities. polysorb can also be used in various curable resins such as reactive coatings and epoxy resins.

Roquette has been working with extremely credible partners such as Mitsubishi Chemicals and the French government throughout their research program and are now seeing an increase in the use of POLYSORB, with annual manufacturing levels at 20,000 tons.  With green chemistry and life science companies beginning to use the product in South East Asia, we certainly expect this to filter through into Europe.

Adding a little drop of Polysorb can make the world of difference to a changing environmental issue.
