15. Though Americans make up just 4% of the world's population, we produce 25% of the carbon dioxide pollution from fossil-fuel burning -- more than China, India and Japan combined, and by far the largest share of any country.

16. The removable roof rack on a car can reduce fuel economy by as much as 5%.

17. Almost 25% of the polluting matter in the air above Los Angeles comes from China's coal-fired power plants and factories, as well as fumes from China's cars and dust kicked up by droughts and deforestation around Asia.

18. 55% of our trash goes to landfills, 14% is burned, and 31% is recycled.

19. About one-sixth of the wood delivered to a construction site is never used. Instead, it's hauled to the landfill as wood waste scraps.

20. Paper products are bleached to make them whiter and brighter. The chlorine used in many bleaching processes contributes to the formation of harmful chemicals that wind up in our air and water and are highly toxic to people and fish.

21. Keep your head out of the refrigerator and the door closed! The refrigerator is the single biggest energy-consuming kitchen appliance, and opening the refrigerator door accounts for between $30 and $60 of a typical family's electricity bill each year. The amount of energy saved in a year by more efficient refrigerator usage could be enough to light every house in the United States for more than four and a half months straight.

22. By 2025, the world must increase its water supply by 22 percent in order to meet its needs. Meanwhile, 40 percent of the drinking water supplied to homes is flushed down the toilet.

Thank you Bambi for your information.
Sometimes people don't realize the waste that we produce.

I hope that we all realize that we can't continue to do this or we won't have a planet for our children.

I'm not sure what it will take to wake us up.

Unfortunately it might have to get a lot worse before we act. :(

You are most welcome. A lot of those facts surprised me. I think in this day and age people are feeling they can't count on the government. We can't rely on them to help with the economy, how can we rely on them to help with the
fate of this planet. They say our children our are future and hope, but they can't do this alone. We need to educate everyone now!. I know there is only so much we can do without help. Every small bit we do can help our planet. I
am determined not to give up!

This is just a simple question, do you guys not recycle your toxic waste, many chemicals that are toxic to animal life, (this includes human life since we are by nature animals) are able to be recycled, reused, and in some cases even rendered harmless, by mixing them with other chemicals. Quite a few other countries do this, just wondered if you do too, if not, it's certainly worth looking into.
